The Vaccines and Records to Have Ready Before Boarding or Daycare

Before a first stay at Sam’s Lodge or a first day at DV Playcare, your dog’s file needs a few documents from your vet. Here is what Doggieville MTL asks for, why each vaccine matters, and how to have everything ready on time.

Key takeaways

  • Daycare at DV Playcare requires Bordetella (valid 6 months), DA2PP and rabies, plus ongoing heartworm, flea and tick prevention.
  • Grooming at Chloe’s Spaw requires DA2PP (also written DHPP or DH2PP) and rabies.
  • For a boarding stay at Sam’s Lodge, call (514) 938-8899 and the team confirms what to upload.
  • Upload the records to your client file with the expiry dates visible, a week or two before the first visit.

01What Doggieville MTL asks for, service by service

Requirements depend on the service, because a dog who plays in a group all day shares more air, toys and water bowls than a dog who comes in for a bath. These are the rules for each service:

  • DV Playcare daycare: Bordetella (kennel cough) given within the last 6 months, DA2PP and rabies, plus ongoing heartworm, flea and tick prevention
  • Chloe’s Spaw grooming: DA2PP and rabies
  • Sam’s Lodge boarding: call (514) 938-8899 and we confirm exactly what to upload for your dog’s stay
  • Dogs older than 11 months must be spayed or neutered to join daycare (call us if a medical reason prevents it)

02What each vaccine protects against

DA2PP is the core combination vaccine. It protects against canine distemper, adenovirus type 2 (which also covers infectious canine hepatitis), parainfluenza and parvovirus. Distemper and parvovirus are serious and very contagious, which is why every service asks for it.

Rabies is a fatal disease that can be passed to people. Your vet’s certificate shows when your dog was vaccinated and when the vaccine expires.

Bordetella bronchiseptica is one of the main causes of kennel cough, a contagious respiratory infection that spreads where dogs share air and toys. The vaccine lowers the risk and usually makes the illness milder if a dog catches it anyway. Because its protection is shorter, DV Playcare asks for a Bordetella vaccine given within the last 6 months.

03Heartworm, flea and tick prevention

Group play means sharing space, so DV Playcare asks that daycare dogs stay on an ongoing prevention plan for heartworm, fleas and ticks. Your vet recommends the product and schedule that suit your dog, your lifestyle and the season.

Ticks are more and more common in southern Quebec. If you walk in parks, along the Lachine Canal or at the cottage, ask your vet whether your dog needs tick prevention for more of the year.

04When to book the vet visit

  • Check the expiry dates on your dog’s records as soon as you plan a trip or a first daycare day
  • Book your vet early if a vaccine or booster is due: some vaccines take time to protect fully, so ask your vet how far ahead to give it
  • Puppies: bring the record of every puppy shot; puppies can start DV Playcare once they have had their vaccines
  • Keep a photo of the records on your phone as a backup

05How to upload records to your Doggieville MTL file

Create your client profile on the online portal, add your dog and upload the vaccine records with the expiry dates visible. Once the file is complete, you can book online or by calling (514) 938-8899.

  • Vaccination certificates from your veterinarian, with expiry dates
  • Your vet’s name and phone number
  • Any medication, with the written dosage
  • Notes on allergies, fears or habits we should know about
